He has served over 3,500 patients in his extensive career as an ocularist in Brisbane and the United Kingdom, and has consulted in the children and adult departments at Moorfields Eye Hospital London as a Senior Ocularist, and at the National Artificial Eye Service in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Nicholas has helped to develop the ocularist profession further, through research and technical development, and has established support groups for ocular prosthesis wearers.
